Links have been made over the last few years between young singers in Southend, and young performers in Cottbus, Germany. The Southend Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs will be welcoming a visiting children’s choir from Germany this weekend, who will spend a few days exploring Southend and London. The Lower Sorbian children and youth ensemble has been established by singers and dancers in Cottbus 30 years ago. Today it is a registered association with a choir, a dancing chorus and a women’s sextet. The ensemble refers to the Lower Sorbian child ensemble, which had its first performance in 1981. Southend singers visited Cottbus last year, and are delighted to welcome these singers back to Southend.
The visiting group of 20 young singers, who perform in traditional Lower Sorbian folk costumes, will join in concert with the Southend Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs on Sunday 22nd October, 3pm at St Augustine’s Church, Thorpe Bay. Tickets are priced £6 (£5 concessions) and can be ordered from 01702 465460.
