The Southend Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs will be performing a concert at the end of the pier, a mile and a third out to sea on Sunday 9th July at 3pm. The singers, aged 9 – 21, will be singing a range of popular music in this afternoon concert in the Royal Pavilion. Audience can enjoy music from West End shows and films, gospel and spirituals, as well as solos and duets from the young singers. Tickets cost £8 which includes entrance to the pier and the pier train, and can be ordered from 01702 465460.
Later this month 130 singers will be performing in the prestigious BBC Proms concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall. 5 members of the Southend Boys’ Choir have been selected to take part in the BBC Proms Youth Choir to perform at the First Night of the Proms on Friday 14th July, which will be broadcast on TV and Radio, and the following weekend 130 singers aged 11 – 21 will be taking part in 2 performances of the BBC Ten Pieces Proms on Sunday 23rd July, accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. This is a huge privilege for the choirs, and for some it will be their first time performing at one of the greatest concert halls in the world.
