The Mystery of the Star-Eaters

June 9, 2017

Southend BID invites you to take to the streets for a live adventure game: The Mystery of the Star-Eaters

“A demanding boss, enough unsolved cases to fill an aircraft hangar, and now one of Southend’s leading professors has gone missing. Detective Inspector Ranney is not having a good day…”

Thus begins the story behind a truly immersive gaming experience for would-be sleuths and adventurers, Casefile: The Mystery of the Star-Eaters.

Thanks to the Southend BID, on Saturday 24th June the High Street is being turned into a life-size game board with players of all ages invited to take on the role of ‘consulting detective’ in a thrilling and at times spine-tingling, game that will test their wits to the very limits.

Following clues, questioning witnesses and solving puzzles, Southend’s would-be super sleuths will be taken on a journey of discovery around the town centre’s landmarks as they investigate a mystery that would test even the great Sherlock Holmes.

The event will run continuously from 10am to 4pm, so players can stop and start whenever they choose - taking plenty of time out for lunch and shopping!?  With free entry for the under 12’s and a dedicated children’s mini-mystery game running concurrently, Casefile: The Mystery of the Star-Eaters makes for a day of unique entertainment for all of the family.

The game has been devised by graphic designer, Stephen Blackwell, who says “The aim was to genuinely replicate the feel of a real investigation and the best way to do that was to make the most of real locations. Working with a number of businesses throughout the town centre, we’ve been able to create an excitingly immersive experience for our players.”

He adds: “Last year’s launch of Pokemon Go showed that there is a real appetite among gamers for more than just staring at a computer screen; ‘The Mystery of the Star-Eaters’ gets players using their body and brain in equal measures, and having a lot of fun along the way.”

Southend BID Manager, Alison Dewey believes the event will add an exciting new element to spending a day by the seaside: “It can be a bit of a challenge finding fresh ways to entertain the kids or spend a day having fun with friends, so this event offers a completely different way of seeing and experiencing the High Street. It’s going to be amazing event and I can’t wait to see how Southend is transformed into a life-sized ‘whodunit’. If you think you have an inner Indiana Jones, then this is the perfect day to find out if you’ve got what it takes!”

Tickets cost just £12 per player - accompanied under 12’s play for free – and are available now from www.visitsouthend.co.uk Southend BID have made an exclusive deal with Casebook Events to be able to offer a £2 off discount code for every adult ticket you purchase - simply enter SEBID2OFF to receive the discount.
