Media Village Project
We wish to develop a film club which incorporates a course using the media business as a platform to develop social and practical skills to enhance employability in all aspects of industry. The course has been created with close consultation with teachers and industry leaders to ensure it is relevant for today’s students to re-engage with education and training.
The Course is for young people aged 14 + as well as adult learners.
The course is robust – we’ve worked with employers and entrepreneurs in its design
Our aim is to reengage young people and motivate them to go back into education or ensure they are ready for the world of work
An art award qualifications may be delivered at the same time
A business specialist and mentors will deliver the course.
The course comprises of 20 guided learning hours, teaching is delivered over 10 weeks. The course can be can be used to fill gaps in learning programmes to enrich the school curriculum if students are of school age and/or aid their employability.
They include practical, engaging and interactive learning activities – we offer a comprehensive set of resources and teaching materials.
The aim of this unit is for learners to develop the skills required to publish, present and produce a digital magazine incorporating online publishing, filmmaking and pod casting.
By the end of this course learners will be able to identify a range of verbal and non‐verbal communication skills that are required to deliver a presentation.
The learners will plan and create a digital magazine.
The learners will create programs and documentaries, which will require investigation into local issues and interaction with various minority groups, therefore breaking down social and ethical barriers
Finally, they will review their own performance and identify ways they could improve.
The aim of this course is for learners to know what it takes to be entrepreneurial and to find out if they have the entrepreneurial mind and skill sets that are valuable to individuals, teams and employers. This set of skills can be applied to all aspects of everyday life. By the end of the unit they will be able to communicate confidentially with others.

MyTown Southend is a Community Interest Company. The organisation provides practical solutions to social exclusion caused by unemployment, youth disengagement and social isolation.
The company was formed following an upsurge in negative news stories portrayed in local and national media about Southend. Although the local area has a great mix of business, leisure and social assets, lack of awareness about local amenities and positive news stories causes social division and suspicion, especially around Southend’s diverse ethnic groups. MyTown Southend was established to provide local information and positive news stories to celebrate good things and deeds of all the people living and working in and around the borough.
We look to involve local people and resources to improve our local neighbourhood and increase community cohesion. We provide work experience to those affected by unemployment, youth disengagement and isolation, helping to improve their digital skills and provide them with teamwork and communication skills. Our primary ethos is to respond to local need and opportunity, and change Southend-on-Sea for the better.
